Four Major Problems In My Country's Metal Packaging Industry

1. Low industrial concentration

The metal packaging industry is also dominated by small and medium-sized enterprises and private enterprises. There are common phenomena such as small scale, low intensive production, low-level duplication, homogenization of quality structure, price competition, etc. There are about 60 domestic enterprises that consume more than 10,000 tons of tinplate. The leading domestic enterprise COFCO Mete (including Wuxi Huapeng Bottle Cap and Guangzhou Panyu Meite) consumes 75,000 tons of tinplate annually, and produces and sells 800 million yuan. In addition to COFCO Meite, there are also large-scale companies such as Beijing Origen Xinmei Group, Fujian Shengxing Group, Fujian Jiamei Group, Sanshui Jianlibao Can Co., Ltd., Haikou Yeshu Can Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Meilin Can Group. Compared with large-scale enterprises in developed countries, there is still a big gap.

2. Lack of high-end products

Currently on the market, the production capacity of two-piece cans, three-piece cans, crown caps, and chemical barrels below 18 liters is surplus, and the capacity for high-quality and high-end products is obviously insufficient. There are too few companies that can produce small-capacity, ultra-thin cans, various special-shaped cans and fine cans suitable for supermarket shelf effects. The single type of cans is difficult to meet the requirements of the further development of the packaging industry, which restricts the development of metal packaging.

3. Over-reliance on imports

Most of the equipment in the metal container industry relies on imports. At present, the mainstream equipment in the world has developed towards digitalization, networking, high-speed and low-consumption, more environmental protection and humanization. However, the dependence on imports of China's main metal packaging equipment and materials has not been fundamentally changed. It is recommended that the machinery manufacturing department pay attention to the improvement of the performance of packaging machinery and equipment, and strive to reduce imports, which will help save foreign exchange. Except for iron printing equipment and aerosol tank equipment, the introduction of other equipment should be cautious to avoid repeated introduction.

According to a survey by the Metal Packaging Committee, in recent years, the annual demand for aluminum cans has hovered at 7 billion, and the annual demand for cold-rolled steel drums is about 60 million. Metal cans use tinplate cold-pressed plates and aluminum plates as raw materials, which are high-tech packaging materials. In 2004, the metal container industry purchased 1.5 million tons of tinplate, a considerable part of which came from imported plates; and the import of raw plates from abroad to process tinplate in China caused the country to pay a lot of foreign exchange. Due to the high degree of dependence on plate, when my country's steel industry raised the anti-dumping banner in 2003 and 2004, the sales price of tinplate rose all the way, and the industry encountered unprecedented difficulties (from June 2002 to the present, the price has increased by more than 80%, and The increased costs of the metal can industry have been transferred to downstream industries by less than 20%).

4. Serious waste of resources

The current economic growth mode of my country's packaging industry is still extensive, and the resource consumption is huge, which is twice the world average, 4.3 times that of the United States and 11.5 times that of Japan. my country's energy consumption per unit of GDP is 4 times that of the United States and 7 times that of Japan. As far as metal packaging is concerned, the power consumption of iron and aluminum packaging materials (containers of the same volume) is 0.70kw/h for iron and 3kw/h for aluminum, and the proportion of energy consumption is much greater than that of other packaging materials. Since the country has not yet formed a complete set of effective mechanisms and related supporting policies for recycling packaging waste, the recycling rate of waste is very low and the waste of resources is serious.
